 ABOUT THE CONCERT

New Century presents New Century: Reunited, a special collaboration with Stanford Live that brings the orchestra together for the first time in over a year. Recorded at Stanford Live’s magnificent Bing Concert Hall, this virtual presentation will highlight the world premiere of the Double Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Orchestra by Academy-Award winning composer Tan Dun, featuring Music Director and violinist Daniel Hope and Ukrainian pianist Alexey Botvinov. Also featured on the program is Ernest Bloch’s popular Concerto Grosso No. 1 for strings and piano obbligato and Aaron Jay Kernis’s Elegy (for those we lost), which New Century will dedicate to those who have suffered and died in the past year from both from the pandemic and from racial violence and hatred.
