Between Conflict and Religiosity

Alexey Botvinov presents the program "Between Conflict and Religiosity"

Sergei Prokofiev's "Piano Sonata No.6" was composed between 1939 and 1940 and is the first of his "war sonatas." With powerful motifs and expressive passages, it reflects the inner turmoil of a time of external control.

The "Visions Fugitives, Op.22" composed between 1915 and 1917, are 20 short piano pieces that combine impressionistic sounds and a variety of moods. They were written during a time of political upheaval and reflect Prokofiev's reactions to the situation at the time.

Alemdar Karamanov's Piano Concerto No.3, "Ave Maria," is a work of profound spiritual expression. It combines dramatic emotions, religious faith, and romantic spirit. It was rarely performed in the Soviet Union due to its spiritual themes.
