Musical reading based on the novel by Russian author Mikhail Shishkin
Enamored couple Sasha and Volodya, separated by a war, are left with only words. They write each other letters incessantly, reporting on their daily lives. But something about their correspondence seems the stranger the longer it lasts, as if their time has shifted: She lives in the present, he fights against Chinese rebels in Beijing during the Boxer Rebellion in 1900. Volodya dies in one of the first battles, but his letters continue to arrive. Sasha marries, loses a child—and continues to write to him, undeterred, as if a parallel world existed in which neither time nor death played a role.
